Part of the products affected by the Boots recall

Boots Ireland has recalled 31 private-label vitamins and health supplements because of a substance that may pose a risk if consumed for a long time.

Today, the latest food alert issued by the Irish Food Safety Authority (FSA) issued the recall.

"These products contain a substance called 2-chloroethanol, which is a recognized reaction product of ethylene oxide," FSAI said.

"Ethylene oxide is a pesticide and is not allowed to be used in food sold in the European Union, but it has been approved for use in other countries outside the European Union. Although the consumption of contaminated products does not pose a serious health risk, there are "if long-term continuous consumption Contaminated food will increase the risk. All affected products are manufactured in the UK.

In a statement tonight, Boots Ireland stated: “The safety of our customers is of the utmost importance to us. As a precaution, we have decided to recall a small number of Boots vitamins and supplements from our store in Ireland. Edible. The affected products do not pose a serious risk to health.

"If a customer purchases any of the listed items and their best deadline is before August 2023 or equal to August 2023, we ask you to stop the purchase and return it to any Boots store for a full refund . Affected products include popular multivitamins and vitamins B, C, D, zinc and iron, as well as vegan formula multivitamins and children's multivitamins.

Other health products affected include health products used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, health products to enhance immune health, joints and conception, and products suitable for men and women over 50. The shelf life of all affected products is August 2023.
