PHARMACOLOGICAL: | Its has a wide spectrum of activity against gram positive bacteria including Staphylococci, Streptococci, Corynebacteria, and Erysipelothrix. It has a much narrower gram negative spectrum of activity, but has been shown to be active against Campylobacter coli, and certain spirochaetes. It has also been shown to be extremely active against Mycoplasmaspecies isolated from both mammalian and avian hosts. Spiramyan is a macrolide antibiotic. It is used to treat toxoplasmosis. The antibacterial action involves inhibition of protein Synthesis in the bacterial cel during translocation. Resistance to spiramycin can develop by several mechanisms and its prevalence is to a considerable extent proportional to the frequency of prescription in a given area. The antibacterial spectrum comprises Gram-positive cocci and rods, Gram-negative cocci and also Legionellae mycoplasmas, chlamydiae, some types of spirochetes, Toxoplasma gondii and Cryptosporidium sp., Enterobacteria, pseudomonads and pathogenic moulds are resistant. Its action is mainly bacteriostatic, on highly sensitive strains it exerts a bactericide action. |
INDICATIONS: | For the treatment and prevention of colibacillosis, sinusitis, CRD, synovitis caused by E.coli, mycoplasma and other respiratory infection. Increase resistance in stress condition or viral disease. |
CONTRAINDICATIONS: | is contraindicated in animals hypersensitive to it or other macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin). Most clinicians feel that tylosin is contraindicated in horses, as severe and sometimes fatal diarrheas may result from its use in that species. No information was located with regards to the reproductive safety of tylosin, but it is unlikely to have serious teratogenic potential. Spiramycin is contraindicated in animals hypersensitive to it, or are pregnant. |
